Alchemy, a Brazilian Jewel Maker with International Ambitions

Jewel by Brazilian AlchemyAlchemy, jewel and semi jewel manufacturer, based in the Brazilian city of Limeira, in the interior of the southeastern state of São Paulo, chose Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, to start participating in events abroad.

The company will participate for the first time at Motexha, trade fair in the fashion sector, to take place between the 12th and 15th of September in the emirate.

The company’s proprietor, Anderson Balloni, believes that Dubai has strong potential in the jewelry sector.

“I hope to prospect clients in the region and have a positive return,” he stated. Two months ago Balloni sent a 50-piece sample, with earrings, bracelets, rings and pendentifs, to a Brazilian sales representative in Dubai to start prospecting clients.

Alchemy already exports to England, Portugal, Spain, Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Mexico and the United States.

For Motexha, Balloni will take between 300 and 400 jewels and semi jewels. The company works with gold, silver, brass, resin, Brazilian stones and Swarovski crystals.

According to Balloni, about 30% of the company’s revenues come from the external market. “We are a small company. We sell small packages to wholesaler distributors,” he stated. As well as jewels and semi jewels, Alchemy sells gold and silver bars in the foreign market.

According to the owner, the company’s monthly production varies according to the orders. “We may produce more than 500,000 pieces per month,” he said.

Another factor that affects it is the design of each piece. “If the jewel is very rich in details we may produce a thousand pieces, for example,” he added.

Profile

Founded in 1998, in a 400 square meters space, Alchemy counts on 20 employees, amongst them exclusive designers. The company distributes to many stores and representatives in Brazil, such as Avon, Riachuelo and in the future to Wall Mart, supermarket chain that recently signed a contract with the company.

Alchemy is located in the greatest leaf plated jewels hub in Latin America, Limeira, city responsible for 50% of Brazilian leaf plated jewels exports.

According to information from the Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals (IBGM), Brazilian exports in the sector yielded US$ 320.62 million in the first semester of the year. The IBGM has the aim of reaching US$ 1 billion in annual exports up until 2006.
