Brazil Exports 37% More Machinery. US Still Main Destination.

The Brazilian industry of machinery and equipments earned US$ 13.1 billion between January and July 2005, an increase of 27.5% in comparison to the US$ 10.3 billion registered in the same period last year.

The information was released today by the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association (Abimaq, Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Máquinas e Equipamentos).


Exports reached US$ 4.831 billion, an increase in 37% in comparison to the first seven months in 2004. Shipments have remained greater than imports, which added up to US$ 4.715 billion, 26% more than in the period between January and July last year.


The main destinations of the Brazilian products are the United States, Argentina, Mexico, Germany and United Kingdom. Brazil’s main suppliers, in turn, are the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan and France.


According to Abimaq, the employment level in the sector increased in 5.7% with 213,781 people employed in 31st July. The installed capacity in the machinery industry reached 82.4%.
