Brazil’s Northeast Gets New Wine Technology Center

Brazil’s grape and wine production in the Valley of the São Francisco River is set to get a new boost as of February 2006, when the Grape and Wine Technology center should start its operations.

The new center is being built in the city of Petrolina, state of Pernambuco, located in the northeastern region of Brazil.

The unit, which is the result of investments worth nearly US$ 2 million from the state government, is going to research new varieties of grapes adaptable to the region, and will also work as a space to recruit workforce and promote entrepreneurship.

The Grape and Wine Technology center is going to use the bases of the Wine Laboratory, which already works in experimental mode, in Petrolina.

Training and capacitation, in turn, will be held in an area to be inaugurated that will have equipments for videoconferences and computers.
