Brazil’s Honey Exports Grow 300%. US Gets It All

Honey from Brazil Brazilian honey exports in April yielded US$ 2.55 million, representing a 300% increase over the same month last year. In all, 1.67 million kilograms of the commodity were shipped, according to information provided by the Sebrae news agency.

The figures also increased compared with March this year, when exports totaled US$ 1.7 million and 1.2 million kilograms. The data were taken from a survey run by the Sebrae Agribusiness Unit and by the Sustainable Integrated Beekeeping Hub (Rede Apis).

From January until April this year, the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo led the exports (US$ 1.92 million), followed by the states of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil (US$ 1.56 million), Ceará, in the northeast (US$ 694,580), Santa Catarina, in the south (US$ 678,880) and Piauí­, in the northeast (US$ 453,240). In these four months, the average cost was US$ 1.53/kg.

The United States remain as the main importer country for Brazilian honey, answering to over 95% of honey exports from Brazil, which already is the fourth largest exporter of the commodity to the American market.
