Survey Shows Brazil South’s Industrialists Cautiously Optimistic

Brazil industry The Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index (ICEI-RS), measured by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FIERGS), recorded 59 points in July, three points more than in the last survey, conducted in April this year.

This result points to a higher growth rate for the industry in the upcoming months. The ICEI-RS ranges from 0 to 100, depending on the answers of entrepreneurs who participate in the Industry Survey.

Values lower than 50 indicate pessimism, whereas those higher than 50 show confidence. The survey is intended to be an indicator, and its main objective is to predict the level of economic activity.

In comparison with the last survey, the result is mainly due to improved expectations of the industrialists for the next six months, which has increased from 59 to 62.

Assessments regarding current conditions, for which the index recorded 54 points, four more than in the previous survey, point to an improvement in the economic conjuncture.

The survey was disclosed last Sunday by the president at the FIERGS, Paulo Tigre. "The increase shows confidence, and reveals a trend of increased industrial activity in the upcoming months," said Tigre, who called attention to the fact that this should be a resumption of activity, since the losses recorded in the last few years are still far from a recovery.
