Consumer Confidence Down in Brazil for Second Month

The 16th Consumer Expectations Research, released April 5, in Rio de Janeiro, by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), indicates that Brazilian consumers are less confident with the current Brazilian economic situation, as well as with the future of the economy.

FGV stresses that this is the second consecutive month of decrease in consumer satisfaction.

The study, done in all regions of the country with 1,440 Brazilians, from March 7-22, reveals that 17.9% of consumers say that the country’s economic situation is better than that of six months ago, against 21.4% that think it is worse.

In a prior study, released in February, 18.0% thought the economy had improved compared to 18.7% who said it was worse.

According to the research, 37.6% of the consumers interviewed believe Brazilian economic situation will improve in the next six months. 14.2%, however, expect a worse situation.

In the prior study, 43.5% were optimistic about the economy for the following semester, and 11.2% thought the opposite.
