Brazil Wants Better Integration with the 10 Countries It Borders

A greater integration between Brazil and South America is one of the focuses of the Ministry of National Integration’s Border Area Program. Brazilian border corresponds to 27% of the national territory.

“The program is the consolidation of the region as a priority area for the country’s development,” said the Minister of National Integration, Ciro Gomes.


“Expected results are: boost in economy, strengthening of local social base, recovery of citizenship values, and contribution for development programs in South America.”


Approximately 10 million people live in the 588 municipalities that integrate Brazilian border with 10 countries.


In the Alto Solimões (Amazonas), the program will include fishing, lumbering, and ecotourism activities.


In Rio Grande do Sul (southern Brazil), forestation and fruit culture. And apiculture and culture of yerba mate in Ponta Porã, Mato Grosso do Sul.
