Brazil Exports Start Month with a Bang

Brazilian exports In just one business day this month, which was Friday last week, Brazilian exports totaled US$ 701 million, and set the highest daily average so far in the year's 105 business days. On the other hand, imports reached US$ 378 million, at a daily average among the lowest recorded in 2007.

As a result, the trade balance (exports minus imports) reached US$ 323 million, according to information disclosed by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. The surplus is very high for a single day, considering that the daily average in April was US$ 210 million, and it decreased to US$ 175.81 million last month.

For the year, trade balance rose to US$ 17.177 billion, a 7.53% increase over the surplus recorded during the same period last year. Total foreign sales of Brazilian products amount to US$ 60.798 billion, whereas purchases of foreign products reached US$ 43.621 billion.

On Friday, June 1st, it was announced that Brazilian exports had reached US$ 57.9 billion in the first hundred business days of 2007, recorded until the end of the fourth week of May.

This according to information supplied by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. During this period, imports totaled US$ 41.573 billion, which results in a positive trade balance of US$ 16.390 billion.

Compared with the same period last year – from January until the fourth week of May – exports increased by 20.1%. In the same period of 2006, exports totaled US$ 48.270 billion.

Imports grew by 25.8% during the period in 2007: in 2006, they amounted to US$ 33.048 billion, says the Ministry of Development. Brazil is forecasting US$ 152 billion in exports this year.
