Jobs Grow 6% and Salaries 2% in Brazil

Brazilian formal employment rose 5.83%  with the creation of 1.831 million jobs in 2005 when compared to the previous year. This figure was disclosed in the Annual Report of Social Information (Rais), released today, September 27, by Brazil’s Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho.

According to him, this was the second best performance since the study started being done, in 1985. The result was only behind that of 2004, when a total of 1.862 million jobs, with growth of 6.3%, in comparison to 2003.

Rais shows that, in 2005, the real average wage grew 2.14% when compared to the previous year, reaching 1,135.35 reais (US$ 516.54). Last year, the total number of workers formally employed reached 33.239 million.

The minister stated that it is necessary to continue creating conditions for the generation of formal jobs, with the approval of the General Law of Micro and Small companies, which is currently being debated in the National Congress.

Shoes

The 26 Brazilian companies that participated at the GDS shoes fair, in Germany, signed immediate business deals worth US$ 15.3 million, which represented an increase of 44.34% in relation to the edition in September 2005, according to information from the Brazilian Association of Shoe Manufacturers (Abicalçados). The fair was held between the 15th and 17th of September in the city of Düsseldorf.

The entity forecasts that in the next 12 months the business volume will reach US$ 37 million, which will represent an increase in 15% in relation to the September 2005 edition. The Brazilian companies that participated in the fair are part of the Brazilian Footwear program, by Abicalçados.
