Jamaica Defends a Permanent Seat for Brazil at the UN

Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Percival J. Patterson, demonstrated support for Brazil’s candidature for a permanent seat at the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

The information was given by the director of the Department of the North and Central Americas, and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Leonardo Vasconcelos, which accompanied the meeting between Brazilian Chancellor, Celso Amorim, and Minister Patterson, this Monday, May 16, in Kingston, the Jamaican capital.


According to Vasconcelos, Jamaica’s opinion on this subject was one of the multilateral subjects discussed by the two ministers. Jamaica is committed to support Brazil’s UN bid within Caricom.


During the meeting at the government palace, Minister Celso Amorim handed a letter from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Jamaica’s Prime Minister, inviting him to visit Brazil. Patterson replied the trip will happen soon.


Amorim visited an ethanol plant, which counts on the participation of a Brazilian company. Then he joined in the closing ceremony of the Seminar Brazil-Jamaica.


Amorim told entrepreneurs that Brazil is willing to increase bilateral cooperation, which will also include collaboration at entrepreneurial level.
